Make it last
Care & Longevity
Good furniture rewards a little upkeep with years of extra life. None of this is hard; most of it is a soft cloth and a few minutes now and then.
Upholstery
- Vacuum weekly with a brush attachment to lift the grit that wears fibers down.
- Blot spills, never rub. Rubbing pushes a stain deeper and frays the weave.
- Rotate loose cushions so they wear and fade evenly.
- Keep it out of direct sun where you can; strong light fades fabric and leather alike.
Leather & faux leather
- Wipe genuine leather with a dry cloth weekly and condition it twice a year.
- Faux leather only needs a damp cloth; skip oils and conditioners, which can break the coating down.
Wood & case goods
- Dust with the grain using a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry.
- Use coasters and felt pads; heat and water rings are the usual culprits behind a tired tabletop.
- Tighten drawer and leg hardware once a year; a loose joint is what fails first.
Anchor tall pieces. Dressers and bookcases should be secured to the wall with the included tip-over strap, especially in homes with children. It takes five minutes and prevents the one accident that matters most.
